Newcastle

A Day To Explore

One of the first places I chose to travel to was Newcastle! You're probably wondering why? what does this old washed up town have to offer but before you cast your judgement and doubts, let me show you how this charming seaside town can create a day filled with delicious food, entertainment and stunning views.

Travel

The journey to Newcastle isn't as bad as it seems, I promise! It is on the coast, which depending on where you are coming from can be far, but its worth it! The roads and signs are pretty easy to follow, and after a few trips you will know it like the back of your hand. After having been a few times I decided to drive a more scenic route home, going along the coast, then through Newry which added about another hour to my journey.

If you're looking for somewhere to stay overnight you can visit Castlewellan which is on the way, and only a short car ride between the two. Castlewellan offers a camp site, a wonderful maze to get lost in and a beautiful lake to walk around or if you want more adventure you can rent equipment and go water boarding, canoeing or just a simple swim.

Food

So you've made the trip, now what? Prepare your taste buds for a delightful experience! Newcastle offers so many different options for food from fine dining restaurants such as the anchor bar to Froth Bistro to pizzerias and chippies you aren't short on choice. Not only do these restaurants rank high In Northern Ireland but they also offer stunning views with many of them facing the ocean. My favourite would have to be the Anchor bar as nothing beats eating some chicken and chips and staring out window to the ocean.

Don't forget dessert! what's better than sitting eating Ice cream on a hot summers day overlooking the ocean, or maybe taking a stroll along the pier to enjoy your sweet treats. There are many options to choose from such as the delicious Nugelato, which I can never resist (as if I'm going to try), or maybe you prefer sweets to take home with you, which you can purchase in Tip Top - The sweet shop.

Entertainment

After you've enjoyed your meal, you can take a walk along the pier or through the town to wonder about the shops and take in the views. For any families with children, DON'T FEAR! There are plenty of places to take your children so they don't drive you too mad. From a race course to a water park, Newcastle has it all! You can take your kids swimming in the ocean if the weather permits or maybe indoors to Coco's play area if you've missed out on the five days of sunshine we get. One of my favourite things to do is to go to the amusements and bring out my inner child as I try to beat the highest score or win the game that's definitely rigged. There's also no shortage of casinos and amusements in Newcastle to spend some time being a child again.

And if all that isn't enough you can always take a detour and go to Murlough beach. The walk may be annoying but the beach is so worth it! With stone free sand to place your towel down and sun bathe to giant sand dunes to climb and explore, this beach is one you must visit at least once.

So as you can see this place can be wonderful and you can create so many memories here, as I have done on my countless trips.

As you can see Newcastle has it all, and you won't waste a second in the beautiful town!
