Portstewart

 Seaside town with stunning views

Travel

For my next journey, I wanted to go somewhere farther than I had ever been before. I looked around on a map and google to find somewhere that I could drive to, that would be perfect for a hot summer's day. PORTSTEWART! I looked at the beautiful images on google and began planning my itinerary. I checked to see how long it would take me to drive there....2 HOURS... or 67.6 miles. The longest I've ever drove was 1 hour...how was I going to sit in a car for 2 hours. I initially backed out but I couldn't find anywhere that compared with an even longer journey and decided to suck it up and just go for it.

The drive began well however it faltered when half way through I realised I forgot to fill up my car and I had to find a filling station ASAP as my tank was in red. (Side note: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR TANK BEFORE GOING ON A LONG JOURNEY)  After that harrowing experience, I hit the road again and continued my travels to Portstewart.

Arrival

I MADE IT! After entering the town, I began to hunt for a car park, or anywhere resembling that so I could eat. Fortunately not too long after I found one near a church parking and was still very close to the promenade. After a short walk around we landed in Bob & Bert's to refuel. Not the most luxurious place to dine, but it sufficed. If I ever venture near Portstewart again I will definitely be trying the Anchor Bar which looked world class from my point of view.

I then headed down to the Promenade for a walk around the town. As you step outside you are hit with the smell of salt water and the sound of waves smashing against the rocks. With the sun beaming down on us, me and my friend headed down to the pier walk, and took a stroll beside the waves, and mini beach. The views cannot compare to anything! A seaside town with stunning views.

 Beach

After a stroll around the town and a bite to eat, we decided to head down to the Strand beach and not waste the summer's day. The parking for the beach was non existent. They allow you to drive your car onto the sand however I was cautious about damaging my car and decided to park on the closest street and walk down. The beach wasn't that packed so we got ourselves a good spot and enjoyed the heat and even had a splash in the water, before heading back to the car.

Portrush

I took a last minute detour to drive around Portrush and see if it lived up to my childhood memories. The drive over was horrible once you hit the town as the traffic was stopped with no one moving. If not for the red brake lights, I might've thought all these cars were abandoned. I got a nice drive through to see the now shut down Barry's amusements and the lovely views from inside my car. After driving through a loop of Portrush I began to follow signs for home with a smile on my face.
